The PLANET LRE-101 is a compact Ethernet over UTP extender in a metal housing that converts and extends 10/100BASE-TX Ethernet signals over existing UTP or phone wires. It provides one 10/100TX RJ45 port and one UTP RJ45 connector and supports full-duplex throughput up to 100 Mbps, enabling extension of Ethernet links up to 700 m over Cat.5e UTP and up to 1200 m over phone wire. Its small size and low power consumption make it suitable for retrofitting IP devices on existing cabling without installing new network cabling.

How to use

Install a pair of LRE-101 units for a point-to-point link: set one unit to Master mode and the other to Slave mode using the built-in DIP switch. Connect the Ethernet device (for example an IP camera or access point) to the 10/100TX RJ45 port on one unit and connect the existing UTP or phone wire to the UTP RJ45 connector to carry the signal to the remote unit. At the receiving end, connect the remote unit’s 10/100TX port to the destination device. Optionally install the units into a PLANET media converter chassis to provide centralized DC power and chassis-based mounting.

Recommendations

For reliable performance, test the existing cable quality and select Cat.5e UTP or phone wire according to the required distance. Use Master/Slave pairing for point-to-point links and avoid mixing modes in multi-drop scenarios. Consider using the PLANET media converter chassis if centralized power or rack/DIN-rail installation is needed.
