The PLANET GSW-1601 is an unmanaged Gigabit Ethernet switch with 16 RJ45 10/100/1000 Mbps ports designed for enterprise backbone and data center networking. How to use

Install the GSW-1601 in a rack or place it on a flat surface with adequate ventilation. Use Cat5e/Cat6 cables to connect devices to the RJ45 ports; the switch will automatically detect speed and duplex. Select the desired operation mode with the hardware DIP switch: use Standard for normal switching, Flow Control Off to disable flow control, VLAN for port-based isolation where ports 1–14 can only talk to ports 15 and 16, or Extend to enable 200 m transmission at 10 Mbps on ports 1–8. Connect uplink devices to ports 15 and 16 when VLAN isolation or aggregation is required.

Recommendations

For stable performance in Gigabit environments, use Category 5e or Category 6 cables and reserve the Extend mode for scenarios where longer distance is required but lower throughput (10 Mbps) is acceptable. Enable VLAN mode to isolate sensitive segments and reduce broadcast storms; use Standard mode for general-purpose deployments.
