LevelOne VDS-2201 Gigabit Ethernet over VDSL2 Converter, 10/100/1000 Mbit/s, Black

VDS-2201 is an industrial ultra-speed VDSL2 extender that delivers fiber-like performance over existing copper lines. It supports VDSL2 profiles 35b, 30a and 17a with aggregated bandwidth exceeding 300 Mbps and provides a Gigabit Ethernet (RJ45) port and a VDSL2 (RJ45) port in a metal enclosure for robust installation. The device supports symmetric long-reach Ethernet links up to 3,000 meters and asymmetric configurations for services that require unidirectional high-throughput such as video streaming or IP surveillance. It operates from 12–24 V with typical power consumption around 4.5 W and supports IEEE 802.3 family networking standards.

Advantages

The LevelOne VDS-2201 enables high-speed data transmission over existing copper infrastructure, reducing the need for new fiber deployment. Its metal housing and compact design provide durability for hardened environments while a single Gigabit Ethernet port ensures compatibility with modern network equipment. The unit supports both symmetric and asymmetric VDSL2 operation, allowing flexible deployment for long-reach Ethernet or downstream-heavy services.

Suitable for

• Extending Ethernet networks up to 3,000 m over copper
• Delivering high-bandwidth downstream services such as video streaming or IP surveillance
• Industrial or hardened installations requiring a metal-enclosed media converter
• Locations where fiber deployment is not economical

How to use

Install the VDS-2201 in a suitable location and connect the VDSL2 port to the existing copper line using the RJ45 connector. Connect the Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 port to the local switch, router or endpoint device. Configure the VDSL2 mode (symmetric or asymmetric) according to the required application: choose symmetric mode for balanced long-reach Ethernet links and asymmetric mode for downstream-focused services such as video or surveillance. Ensure correct power supply within the 12–24 V range and verify link status using the device indicators and connected network equipment.

Recommendations

For best performance, use high-quality copper cabling and minimize line noise. Use symmetric configuration for Ethernet extension where balanced upstream and downstream throughput is needed; select asymmetric operation when the application requires higher downstream capacity. Deploy the unit in a sheltered location if extreme environmental protection beyond the metal housing is required, and verify compatibility with existing network equipment and VDSL profiles prior to large-scale rollout.
