When you attach the ECM-G1 to the MI Shoe of any of Sony's compatible cameras, power is supplied directly from the camera to the microphone. This lets you handle extended shooting sessions free of concerns about the microphone battery running out.

Connect to your laptop or other device
A microphone out jack is provided on the side of the microphone. This can be used with cameras, PCs, IC recorders and other compatible devices that have plug-in power but do not have an MI Shoe. A recording cable2 is included.

How to use

Attach the ECM-G1 to the MI Shoe of a compatible Sony camera for a cable-free connection and automatic power from the camera. Position the microphone so it points toward the primary sound source (usually the person speaking) to take advantage of the super-cardioid pickup pattern. For devices without MI Shoe, connect the included recording cable to the microphone's 3.5 mm output and plug it into a camera, smartphone or PC that provides plug-in power. Fit the detachable wind screen when shooting outdoors in windy conditions. Avoid blocking the capsule opening and secure the microphone in the shoe or mount before recording.

Recommendations

For best voice clarity, keep the microphone aimed at the speaker and maintain a consistent distance. Use the wind screen outdoors and avoid contact with the microphone body to minimise handling noise. When possible, connect via MI Shoe to eliminate cable-transmitted vibration and rely on camera power for uninterrupted recording.
