LONGSPAN Base Unit is a network transmitter that enables long-range Power over Ethernet for IP cameras and other remote network devices. When paired with a LONGSPAN Camera unit, it delivers up to 200 Mbps bandwidth and supports reliable 100Base-T Ethernet over regular Cat 6 cable to 840 metres or Cat 5e to 690 metres. The unit also supports negotiation to 10Base-T for extended ranges beyond 1000 metres and can be powered via PoE-in or a VPSU-57V-X supply.

How to use

Connect the LONGSPAN Base to your network switch or PoE injector and to the remote LONGSPAN Camera unit using regular Cat 5e or Cat 6 cable. If required, provide power via PoE-in or connect a VPSU-57V-X supply. The units automatically negotiate the best link speed and configuration; for maximum throughput use Cat 6 cable to achieve 100Base-T at extended distance. For ranges exceeding the 100Base-T limit, the system will auto-negotiate to 10Base-T to maintain a connection beyond 1000 metres.

Recommendations

For reliable 100Base-T operation at the highest supported distances, use high-quality Cat 6 cabling and ensure both Base and Camera units are correctly paired and powered. For legacy analogue upgrades, verify single-pair UTP compatibility and test link performance after installation.
