Motherboard MSI B850M GAMING PLUS WIFI — AMD B850, Socket AM5, micro ATX, DDR5, 4x DIMM, 3x M.2, Wi‑Fi 7, 5Gb LAN

The MSI B850M GAMING PLUS WIFI is a micro ATX motherboard with the AMD B850 chipset and Socket AM5, compatible with AMD Ryzen 7000, 8000 and 9000 series processors. It supports DDR5 memory up to 256 GB across four DIMM slots, offers M.2 storage with RAID 0/1/10 support, and includes high-bandwidth networking with Wi‑Fi 7 (802.11be) and 5 Gigabit LAN for demanding gaming and multitasking systems.

Advantages

The board features a DIRECT 8+2+1 digital power design with 8+4-pin CPU power connectors and Core Boost technology to sustain heavy CPU loads. An optimized PCB and enlarged heatsinks, including an extended VRM heatsink and enlarged chipset heatsink, improve thermal performance and reliability. Additional elements such as M.2 Shield Frozr, 7W/mK MOSFET thermal pads and extra choke pads help maintain SSD and VRM stability under prolonged high loads. Built-in PCIe 5.0 support, Supplemental PCIe Power and EZ DIY features simplify upgrades and system assembly while enabling modern GPU and storage configurations.

Suitable for

• Gaming PCs using AMD Ryzen 7000/8000/9000 series processors
• Compact micro ATX systems requiring DDR5 memory and M.2 storage
• Users needing high-bandwidth networking with Wi‑Fi 7 and 5 GbE

Key specifications

• Form factor: Micro ATX
• Chipset: AMD B850
• CPU socket: Socket AM5
• Memory: 4 × DDR5 DIMM slots, up to 256 GB
• Expansion: 1 × PCIe x16 (PCIe 5.0 support)
• Storage: M.2 interfaces with RAID 0/1/10 support
• Networking: Wi‑Fi 7 (802.11be), 5 Gigabit Ethernet

How to use

Install an AM5-compatible Ryzen processor and install up to four DDR5 DIMMs following the motherboard manual for recommended slot population. Mount M.2 SSDs into the M.2 slots and secure with the M.2 Shield Frozr to improve thermal performance. Connect power using the 24‑pin ATX and the 8+4‑pin CPU power connectors; if using high-power GPUs or additional PCIe devices, connect Supplemental PCIe Power as required. Configure RAID in the BIOS if using multiple drives in RAID 0/1/10, and enable or set up Wi‑Fi 7 via the OS network settings or MSI utilities.

Recommendations

For stable long-term performance, ensure adequate case airflow to complement the extended heatsinks, keep BIOS and MSI Center utilities up to date, and use high-quality DDR5 memory and M.2 drives compatible with PCIe 5.0 where applicable.
