Traffic detection — Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) compliance
The IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) feature automatically detects network traffic and adjusts power consumption dynamically, enabling the switch to reduce power consumption during low link utilization periods. The GS1100 Series comes with IEEE 802.3az on/off button to help reduce power consumption. This button allows users to keep the best performance without transmit impacted or to have green support of Energy Efficient Ethernet mode with a simple push of a button.

Inactive link detection
The inactive link detection function automatically reduces power usage when inactive links or devices are detected. The ZyXEL GS1100 Series can adjust power consumption according to link status and the number of active network devices.

Cable length detection
This green feature enables the switch to automatically detect the length of connected Ethernet cables and adjust power usage accordingly. The shorter the cable length, the less power it consumes.

Fanless design

The power supply of up to 30 watts per port allows the GS1100-8HP/10HP to power PoE-enabled WLAN APs, VoIP phones and IP surveillance cameras through CAT-5 cables without extra power adapters. The GS1100-10HP has been designed with eight full PoE Plus ports with total PoE power budget of up to 130 Watts, which makes it an ideal connectivity solution for high-density powered device deployments. How to use

Place the GS1100-10HP v2 on a desktop or mount it on a wall using the included brackets. Connect your router or uplink to one RJ-45 port and plug end devices into the remaining Gigabit ports. For PoE devices, connect them to the PoE-enabled ports—power is supplied automatically without separate power injectors. If needed, install fiber modules into SFP slots and connect fiber uplinks. The switch is unmanaged, so no configuration is required for basic operation.

Recommendations

For optimal energy savings, enable Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) using the on/off control if available, and place the switch in a ventilated, dust-free environment. When deploying many powered devices, verify the total PoE budget and distribute high-power devices across ports to avoid exceeding the switch’s power capacity.
