Satellite Multiswitch Kathrein EXR 2558 Grey

The Kathrein EXR 2558 Grey is a compact, indoor satellite multiswitch designed to distribute four satellite polarisation/band levels and terrestrial signals to multiple receivers. It supports a frequency range from 47 to 862 MHz, uses F-type RF connectors and provides one terrestrial input, four satellite outputs and eight subscriber (sub) outputs. The unit includes an integrated amplifier and pre-emphasis circuitry to compensate cable attenuation and keeps terrestrial reception available even when satellite receivers are switched off. The device draws about 20 mA and measures 159 x 148 x 43 mm, weighing 0.45 kg. It requires an AC power supply in the range 198–253 V.

How to use

Install the multiswitch indoors and connect the dish LNB outputs and terrestrial antenna to the appropriate inputs using F-type coaxial connectors. Connect receivers to the sub outputs; each single receiver requires one downlink cable while twin receivers require two. If required, cascade additional multiswitches by linking appropriate inputs/outputs according to system design. Provide AC mains power (198–253 V) to the unit; remote feeding of the device is possible via the horizontal low inputs while keeping other inputs voltage-free for compatibility with UAS 485/585 equipment.

Recommendations

To maintain signal quality over long coax runs, use good quality RG-6 or equivalent coaxial cable and follow the device’s pre-emphasis and amplifier settings. Ensure correct polarity and secure F-type connections; for larger installations, plan cascade stages and power feeding to avoid overloading any single feed point.
