Network Media Converter PLANET XT-705A

The PLANET XT-705A Network Media Converter provides flexible distance extension between copper and fiber links by combining one 10G/5G/2.5G/1G/100BASE-T RJ-45 port with one 10GBASE-X SFP+ slot. It enables media conversion from 10GBASE-T copper to 10GBASE-SR/LR fiber transceivers (SFP+) to extend connections from multi-mode short-reach links up to 300 meters to single-mode long-reach links up to 60 kilometers. The device is designed for environments that require 10 Gigabit Ethernet throughput such as data centers, enterprise backbones, campus networks and carrier infrastructure.

How to use

Install a compatible 10G SFP+ transceiver (SR or LR) into the SFP+ slot and connect the fiber cable to the remote fiber device. Connect the copper RJ-45 port to a switch, server or patch panel supporting the required Ethernet speed; the port supports auto-negotiation across 10G/5G/2.5G/1G/100BASE-T. If preferred, slide the XT-705A into a PLANET MC-700 or MC-1500 chassis to provide centralized DC power and organized mounting. Power on the unit and verify link/activity LEDs and network connectivity. Choose single-mode transceivers for long-distance links and multi-mode for short-reach connections.

Recommendations

For reliable long-distance links, use certified 10GBASE-LR single-mode SFP+ transceivers and appropriate single-mode fiber (with correct connector type). For short-reach connections up to 300 m, use 10GBASE-SR transceivers with OM3/OM4 multi-mode fiber. When deploying multiple converters, consider using the PLANET media converter chassis for centralized power and easier cable management.
