Network Media Converter PLANET VC-231GP

The PLANET VC-231GP is a single-port Gigabit Ethernet-over-VDSL2 converter with an integrated IEEE 802.3at PoE+ injector, designed to extend Gigabit Ethernet and deliver power to remote PoE devices over existing telephone copper wiring. It supports VDSL2/ADSL2+ technologies and can work with VDSL2 converters or multi-channel VDSL2 switches to transmit Ethernet data up to 1.4 km over phone wire, then forward data and deliver up to 30 W of PoE power over an additional 100 m of UTP cable to IEEE 802.3af/at powered devices.

How to use

Set the VC-231GP to CPE mode when installing at a remote client site or to CO mode when used at the central site by adjusting the built-in DIP switch. For a point-to-point link, pair the VC-231GP (CPE) with a compatible PLANET CO unit (for example VC-231G or VC-234G) at the central side. Connect the converter to the existing RJ11 telephone jack using the supplied splitter to separate POTS and VDSL2 signals, then run a Cat5e/6 UTP cable from the Gigabit Ethernet port to the remote PoE device. The unit will establish DSL connection automatically and provide data and PoE power to IEEE 802.3af/at powered devices.

Recommendations

Install the VC-231GP close to the remote PoE device to minimize UTP cable length (max 100 m for full PoE delivery), use Cat5e or Cat6 cable for the Ethernet run, and pair the device with a PLANET VDSL2 CO unit supporting vectoring when available to improve line stability and throughput.
