The ICY DOCK ToughArmor MB516SP-B is a high-density storage backplane module designed to fit into two standard 5.25" optical drive bays, accommodating up to sixteen 2.5" SAS or SATA SSDs/HDDs. Built with a full metal construction (aluminum and steel), it offers robust durability and efficient heat dissipation. The backplane features four Mini-SAS HD (SFF-8643) host interfaces supporting data transfer rates up to 12Gbps for SAS 3.0 and 6Gbps for SATA III. Each drive bay includes tool-less EZ-Slide mini trays for quick installation, and the module supports drive heights from 7mm to 15mm. Cooling is provided by two 40mm fans with three selectable modes (High, Low, Off), and per-bay LED indicators show power, activity, and drive failure status. A key lock system adds physical security. The backplane is hot-swap capable and RAID support depends on the host controller.
