Dome IP security camera AXIS Q6355-LE — 1080p, indoor/outdoor, ceiling mount, wired, 0.008 lx sensitivity

AXIS Q6355-LE is a dome IP PTZ security camera designed for indoor and outdoor ceiling installations. Built on the ARTPEC-9 platform, it delivers 1920×1080 resolution with a highly light-sensitive 1/2" sensor, low-light performance down to 0.008 lx, and a 31x optical zoom. OptimizedIR provides illumination up to 300 m for night surveillance, while Axis Zipstream with AV1, H.264 and H.265 support reduces bandwidth and storage needs. The camera includes hardware-based cybersecurity through Axis Edge Vault and is rated for harsh environments with IP66, IK10 and NEMA 4X protection.

Advantages

This PTZ camera combines high-quality Full HD imaging with strong low-light sensitivity and long-range infrared, enabling clear detail in varied lighting conditions. Fast 31x optical zoom, laser focus and quick zoom make it suitable for tracking moving objects. ARTPEC-9 adds on-device AI capabilities and efficient codecs (including AV1) to lower bitrate without degrading image quality. Built-in cybersecurity features and rugged environmental ratings support secure, reliable operation outdoors.

Suitable for

• Perimeter and large-area surveillance where long-range IR and PTZ tracking are required
• Entrances and access points needing detailed identification in varying light
• Critical indoor areas that require continuous monitoring with hardware security
• Installations requiring ceiling-mounted dome cameras with wired network connectivity

When it may not be suitable

This camera is a professional PTZ unit and may be excessive for small, low-risk indoor spaces where fixed, lower-cost 2D cameras suffice. Its advanced features and environmental ratings assume a budget and installation that support power-over-Ethernet and, if needed, fiber backhaul; simple wireless or battery-powered setups are not applicable.

How to use

Install the camera on a suitable ceiling mount with access to a wired Ethernet connection and power-over-Ethernet or the required midspan power supply. Configure network settings and enable Axis Edge Vault for hardware-based security. Use the PTZ controls and quick zoom to position and focus the camera; laser focus ensures accurate sharpness. Activate onboard analytics such as AXIS Object Analytics and Image Health to run detection, classification and image-quality alerts at the edge.

What to consider before purchase

• Confirm availability of wired Ethernet and PoE or the appropriate midspan power (90 W connectivity midspan included with camera in some bundles)
• Check required mounting location for ceiling installation and clearance for PTZ movement
• Evaluate whether long-range IR (up to 300 m) and 31x optical zoom meet your coverage and identification needs
• Ensure integration with your VMS and that the codecs (AV1, H.264, H.265) are supported

Recommendations

For perimeter and entrance monitoring, position the camera to cover the longest sightlines and configure autotracking with adjusted sensitivity to avoid false alarms. Use Axis Edge Vault and FIPS-certified cryptographic storage for deployments that require elevated security. Regularly verify Image Health alerts to maintain clear, reliable footage.
