The ICY DOCK ToughArmor EX MB491SKL-B is a 3.5" carrier panel designed to hold a single 2.5" SATA or SAS HDD/SSD in systems where space is limited and drive security is required. Constructed from full metal, the unit fits in a 3.5" bay and accepts 2.5" drives with a height of 7–15 mm. It supports SATA and SAS at up to 6 Gbps (backwards compatible with 3 Gbps SATA) and includes features intended for industrial and mobile applications.

How to use

Insert a compatible 2.5" SATA or SAS drive (7–15 mm height) into the removable tray, secure the drive with the tray screws, then lock the tray with the metal key if required. Slide the tray into a 3.5" drive bay until the thumb screw engages to lock the tray to the chassis. Connect the system to a compatible SATA or SAS host (SAS host required for SAS drives). The tray supports hot-swap operations, allowing you to replace drives while the system is running if the host and OS support hot swapping.

Recommendations

Use the metal key lock to prevent unauthorized access and engage the thumb screw to minimize vibration during transport. For SAS drives, ensure a SAS host connection; for optimal cooling, allow airflow around the carrier and periodically check the anti-dust flap if the device is unused for extended periods.
