Workstation Lenovo ThinkStation P8 with 128 GB DDR5‑6400 RAM, 1 TB SSD, Windows 11 Pro, 1000 W PSU

Lenovo ThinkStation P8 is a professional tower workstation configured for demanding compute workloads. It features an AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO processor with 32 cores and 64 threads, base clock 4.0 GHz and boost up to 5.4 GHz, 128 GB of DDR5‑6400 memory (2 × 64 GB RDIMM ECC), a 1 TB NVMe SSD on PCIe 5.0, Windows 11 Pro, and a 1000 W power supply. The system is designed for sustained performance in engineering, 3D rendering, CAD and data analysis tasks.

Advantages

The combination of a high‑core-count Threadripper PRO CPU and 128 GB of fast DDR5‑6400 ECC RAM provides strong multi‑threaded performance and reliability for professional applications. A PCIe 5.0 NVMe 1 TB SSD delivers high storage throughput and low latency for large project files. Windows 11 Pro is preinstalled for business deployment and security features, while the 1000 W PSU supports expansion and sustained loads.

Suitable for

• 3D modelling and rendering
• CAD and CAM engineering workflows
• Scientific computing and data analysis
• Software development and virtualization with many threads

When it may not be suitable

This workstation does not include a discrete graphics card, so GPU‑accelerated workflows (GPU rendering, real‑time visualization, or complex GPU compute) will require adding a compatible GPU. For lightweight office tasks or basic home use, the system’s performance and capacity may exceed requirements and lead to higher power consumption and cost than necessary.

Key specifications

• Processor: AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO, 32 cores / 64 threads, 4.0 GHz base, up to 5.4 GHz boost
• Memory: 128 GB DDR5‑6400 (2 × 64 GB RDIMM, ECC)
• Storage: 1 TB NVMe SSD (M.2 2280, PCIe 5.0 x4)
• Power supply: 1000 W
• Operating system: Windows 11 Pro
• Networking: Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000 Mbps)
• Weight: 22.7 kg

How to use

Power on the workstation, complete Windows 11 Pro initial setup and install any vendor drivers and updates. For best performance in multi‑threaded applications, enable ECC and XMP/JEDEC memory settings in the firmware if available and ensure thermal management is configured per Lenovo guidance. Add and install a discrete GPU if your workflows require hardware acceleration, and configure application preferences to use the CPU and GPU resources as needed.

What to consider before purchase

• Whether a discrete graphics card is required for your workload
• Rack or desk space and the system weight (22.7 kg)
• Power and cooling requirements for sustained heavy loads

Recommendations

For maximum reliability in long rendering or simulation runs, keep system firmware and drivers up to date, use ECC memory settings, and ensure adequate case airflow and a stable power source. Add a workstation‑class GPU if your applications leverage GPU acceleration.
