USB 2.0 Extender ROLINE 12.04.1100

The ROLINE USB 2.0 Extender (12.04.1100) extends a USB connection over standard RJ-45 twisted-pair cable up to 50 meters, enabling connection of USB devices such as printers or other peripherals located in another room. It supports USB 2.0 data rates up to 480 Mbit/s and is backwards compatible with USB 1.1/1.0. The extender uses a transparent housing and connects via Cat.5e/Cat.6 cable between the transmitter and receiver units.

How to use

Connect the master unit to the host PC using the integrated USB Type A male connector. Use a Cat.5e or Cat.6 twisted-pair cable to link the master unit RJ-45 port to the remote unit RJ-45 port at the device location. Plug the target USB device into the remote unit’s USB Type A female connector. Finally, connect the included 5 V DC, 2 A power supply to the extender if external power is required.

Recommendations

For reliable USB 2.0 performance at longer distances use high-quality Cat.5e or Cat.6 cable and avoid running the cable alongside high-voltage power lines to minimise interference. Ensure the connected USB device does not require more current than the provided power supply can deliver.
