Studio Off-Camera Flash Kit Elinchrom THREE 400Ws, High-Speed 1/8000s

The Elinchrom THREE 400Ws off-camera flash kit is a compact studio lighting solution that combines 400 watt-seconds of power with high-speed sync up to 1/8000s. Designed for both studio and on-location use, this monolight delivers controlled, repeatable bursts of light with short flash durations to freeze motion and maintain accurate exposure when using wide apertures or fast shutter speeds. The kit is compatible with common light modifiers and supports consistent color temperature across outputs.

Advantages

The unit provides a broad power range with stable output and quick recycling times, enabling efficient workflows during portrait, product, and action shoots. High-speed sync up to 1/8000s allows synchronisation with very fast shutter speeds for shallow depth-of-field or for balancing ambient light. Short flash durations offer effective motion freezing, while standard modifier mounts ensure easy integration with softboxes, reflectors, and umbrellas.

Suitable for

• Studio portrait sessions where shallow depth-of-field is required
• Product and e-commerce photography demanding consistent exposure
• Action and sports images where motion freezing is essential
• On-location shoots that require portable, powerful lighting

Key specifications

• Nominal power: 400 watt-seconds
• High-speed sync capability up to 1/8000 s
• Short flash duration suitable for motion freezing
• Adjustable power output across multiple stops for precise exposure control
• Fast recycle times for continuous shooting workflows
• Compatibility with common light modifiers (standard mount)
• Consistent color temperature across power range

How to use

Mount the flash on a stand or use it handheld with an appropriate bracket and attach a compatible light modifier to shape the light. Set the flash power to the required level according to your exposure and distance, then enable high-speed sync when using shutter speeds beyond the camera’s native sync speed. Meter the scene or take test exposures to fine-tune power and modifier position. Allow the unit to recycle between bursts and monitor ready indicators to avoid mis-timed exposures.

Recommendations

Use the high-speed sync feature to balance bright ambient conditions or to enable shallow depth-of-field with wide apertures. For action freezing, select shorter flash durations and moderate power settings; pair with reflectors or grids to control spill. When shooting in sequences, use the unit’s faster recycle modes and ensure adequate cooling intervals during extended bursts.
