How to Choose SFP Cables
Match both endpoints
Check port type and speed on both devices. A cable coded for one side may still need compatibility with the other switch or server.
Choose DAC or AOC
DAC is cost-effective for short copper rack links. AOC uses optical fiber inside the assembly for longer or lighter cable runs.
Measure rack distance
Use the shortest practical length that still allows clean routing, service loops and airflow. Too much cable hurts rack maintenance.
Check breakout needs
QSFP breakout cables can connect one high-speed port to several lower-speed ports, but only when the switch supports that mode.
