Microphone RØDE VideoMic Pro Rycote

The RØDE VideoMic Pro Rycote is a compact on-camera stereo microphone designed for professional location recording with DSLR and video cameras. It combines a matched pair of 1/2" condenser capsules in an XY configuration for a wide, natural stereo image, a built-in Rycote® Lyre® shock mount to reduce handling noise, and on-microphone power and EQ controls for flexible use in the field.

Advantages

How to use

Mount the microphone to your camera shoe or to a boompole using the 3/8" thread. Insert a 9V alkaline battery and set the rear-panel controls to suit the recording situation: choose the flat or 75 Hz high-pass filter to reduce low-frequency noise, and select the appropriate level position (-10 dB for loud sources, 0 for normal levels, +20 dB when additional boost is needed for low camera preamps). Position the microphone on-axis toward the main sound source for best clarity and ensure the foam windscreen is fitted for outdoor use.

Recommendations

For reduced handling and camera noise, keep cable routing taut and use the Kevlar reinforced braided cable. Use the -10 dB pad for high SPL environments such as live music, and enable the +20 dB boost when recording with consumer DSLR preamps to improve signal-to-noise ratio.
