POLYMAKER Fiberon PA6-CF20 1.75 mm Carbon-Fiber Reinforced is a polyamide 6 (PA6) filament blended with 20% short carbon fibers for FDM/FFF 3D printing. The filament delivers higher stiffness, improved dimensional stability and greater wear resistance compared with unfilled PA6, while maintaining the thermal and mechanical characteristics of a PA6 base. It is supplied in 1.75 mm diameter for compatible desktop and industrial printers that support high-temperature polyamide materials. Proper drying, heated build plates and appropriate nozzle temperatures are required for reliable printing results.

Advantages

Fiberon PA6-CF20 provides increased flexural modulus and reduced creep relative to standard PA6, resulting in stiffer, more dimensionally stable parts. The carbon-fiber reinforcement improves surface hardness and wear resistance and can reduce part weight for a given stiffness. The material retains the thermal resistance and chemical tolerance typical of PA6, and the short fiber distribution enables printing of mechanically demanding parts without the need for continuous fibers. Filament is available in 1.75 mm to fit a wide range of FFF/FDM extruders designed for high-temperature nylons.

Suitable for

  • Functional prototypes requiring high stiffness and dimensional stability
  • Mechanical components such as gears, housings and mounting brackets
  • End-use parts exposed to wear or requiring improved surface hardness
  • Jigs, fixtures and tooling where reduced creep and higher modulus are beneficial

Key specifications

  • Base polymer: Polyamide 6 (PA6) with short carbon fiber reinforcement (approx. 20% by weight)
  • Diameter: 1.75 mm nominal
  • Reinforcement: Short carbon fibers to increase stiffness and wear resistance
  • Printing temperature: Requires high nozzle temperatures suitable for PA6 materials
  • Bed requirements: Heated build plate and suitable adhesion strategy for nylon
  • Moisture sensitivity: Hygroscopic — requires drying and moisture-controlled storage
  • Intended process: FFF/FDM 3D printing for engineering and functional parts

How to use

Prepare the filament by drying it according to the manufacturer's recommended conditions for PA6-based materials to remove absorbed moisture before printing. Load the 1.75 mm filament into a printer capable of reaching the required nozzle temperature for PA6 and set a heated build plate to a temperature that promotes adhesion. Adjust extrusion multiplier and retraction settings to account for the filled material's reduced melt flow compared with unfilled nylon. Use slower print speeds and robust part cooling management as carbon-fiber filled nylons benefit from controlled cooling to reduce warping and improve interlayer bonding. After printing, allow parts to cool on the build plate to minimise distortion.

Recommendations

Store the filament sealed with desiccant in a dry environment to prevent moisture uptake. Use a hardened steel or carbide nozzle to resist abrasion from carbon fibers, and inspect extruder drive components regularly. For critical mechanical applications, perform post-print conditioning and mechanical testing to validate performance under intended service conditions.
