The InLine® QSFP28-100G-SR4 module provides reliable 100 Gigabit Ethernet connections via multimode fibre. With an aggregate data rate of 100 Gb/s (4x25.78 Gb/s), it is ideal for high-performance applications in data centres, enterprise core networks and high-performance server environments.
Transmission is via an 850 nm VCSEL array with PIN receiver structure. Thanks to parallel 4-channel technology, a range of up to 100 metres on OM4 and 70 metres on OM3 fibres is achieved. Connection is via an MPO-12 interface.
With a power consumption of less than 2.5 W, the module remains energy-efficient despite its high bandwidth. Power is supplied via 3.3 V. The operating temperature range of 0 °C to +70 °C makes the module suitable for typical data centre environments.
Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) enables continuous monitoring of important operating parameters such as temperature (±3 °C), supply voltage (±3 %) and TX and RX power. This allows network conditions to be detected at an early stage and maintenance measures to be planned in a targeted manner.
The module is hot-pluggable and can be inserted or replaced during operation – a clear advantage for high-availability IT infrastructures.

How to use

Handle the QSFP28 transceiver by its edges and avoid contact with the optical interfaces. Insert the module into a compatible QSFP28 slot on the host device until it clicks into place; the module supports hot-plug operation so it can be inserted or removed while the system is powered. Connect an MPO-12 multimode fibre patch cable matched to OM3 or OM4 specifications and verify link status via the host device. Use the host or management software to read DDM values over I²C for real-time diagnostic information and to confirm correct operation.

Recommendations

For optimal performance, use high-quality OM4 multimode fibre for distances up to 100 m and ensure patch cables and MPO connectors are clean and properly aligned. Monitor DDM parameters to detect abnormal temperature or power levels early. If interoperability issues arise due to vendor coding, request customer-specific programming from your supplier to match host requirements.
