This carbon monoxide (CO) detector instantly detects harmful gas released into the environment and triggers an alarm. It is an electrochemical CO detector designed to sense carbon monoxide, a gas that is colourless, tasteless, non-irritating and undetectable by the senses. Many household items, such as unvented kerosene and gas heaters, leaking chimneys and flues, and gas stoves, release CO and can affect indoor air quality. Breathing air with a high CO concentration reduces oxygen in the bloodstream, which can cause dizziness, loss of consciousness and even death. On detecting carbon monoxide, the detector emits a 70-decibel alarm and a flashing light; if the CO concentration reaches 190 ppm, detection takes less than 30 seconds. An elegant design with an LCD digital display and three indicator lights shows the CO level and device status. A test function lets you check weekly that the unit is working, and a mute function lets you temporarily silence a false alarm while monitoring continues. The device requires three AA batteries (sold separately).
