Graphing Calculator HP Prime G2 by HP — Advanced CAS handheld calculator, color touchscreen, rechargeable battery

HP Prime G2 is an advanced CAS graphing calculator designed for mathematics, engineering and STEM education. It combines symbolic computation with numeric calculation, a full-color touchscreen, and a rechargeable battery to support extended portable use. The device offers graph plotting, dynamic geometry, programmable functions and a broad set of built-in maths apps that streamline algebra, calculus and data analysis tasks.

Advantages

The HP Prime G2 provides symbolic CAS capabilities alongside standard numerical tools, enabling exact algebraic manipulation and symbolic calculus as well as numeric approximations. A multi-touch color display presents graphs, tables and geometry interactively, while a rechargeable battery reduces the need for disposable cells. Its programmable environment and a range of built-in apps let users automate repetitive calculations and tailor workflows for coursework or professional tasks.

Suitable for

• College and university students studying algebra, calculus, linear algebra and differential equations
• Engineers performing symbolic and numeric computations for design and analysis
• High school students and teachers in advanced STEM courses and labs
• Users needing graphing, dynamic geometry and data plotting for coursework or projects

When it may not be suitable

The HP Prime G2 includes a CAS, which may not be allowed in certain standardized exams or testing environments; verify permitted calculators before use. Users who require only basic arithmetic or simple scientific functions may find the feature set and learning curve more extensive than necessary.

Key specifications

• Color multi-touch display for interactive graphing and geometry
• Computer Algebra System (CAS) for symbolic manipulation and calculus
• Graphing capabilities including 2D and function plotting, parametric and polar graphs
• Rechargeable internal battery for portable operation
• Programmable environment with support for custom functions and apps
• Built-in applications for algebra, calculus, statistics, data analysis and geometry

How to use

Turn on the calculator and use the touchscreen or keypad to access dedicated apps for algebra, graphing, statistics and geometry. Enter expressions in symbolic or numeric mode depending on the task; use the CAS app for exact simplification, differentiation and integration, and switch to numeric mode for approximations. Use the graphing app to plot functions, set viewing windows, trace curves and analyze intersections. Recharge the device using the supplied USB cable when the battery level is low.

What to consider before purchase

• Verify whether CAS-enabled calculators are permitted for the exams or courses you will use the device in
• Consider whether a color touchscreen and programmable features are necessary for your typical tasks
• Check compatibility with any classroom or computer software you intend to use for data transfer or backups

Recommendations

Use the HP Prime G2 to combine symbolic manipulation and visual graphing when solving complex problems: start with CAS to simplify expressions or compute derivatives, then visualize results on the touchscreen graphing app to aid interpretation. Regularly charge the battery and back up custom programs to avoid data loss.
