But here is what a one-star review will never tell you:

An expected daily duty cycle of up to 110,000 sheets a day gives your business the ability to process data faster to maximise throughput and meet tight deadlines.

Minimising maintenance time

Maintenance can use up valuable production time, so to make it as efficient as possible we have developed some new and improved features. Daily cleaning mode allows users to be sure of correct cleaning of glass surfaces and rollers to give them a longer life. The front of the scanner opens up wide and LED lighting illuminates the inner workings of the scanner, making access to maintain or clean these areas quick and easy.

Robust, reliable engineering

To prevent breakdowns, the fi-7800 scanner has a metal plated paper path meaning no damage from paper friction, unlike resin surfaces. A ball bearing structure balances the load on the shaft, giving the scanner longevity and maximizing productivity.

Ergonomic design

Designed specifically for operator comfort, this scanner features front-access controls to make the scanning process quick and easy. The scanner can be operated from a seated position, saving time and effort when scanning large volumes of documents.

Industry-leading paper handling

To improve efficiency, the scanner has versatile document feeding options to handle various document types and formats, from mixed batches to different paper types, thicknesses, materials, sizes and volumes. This reduces time spent dividing up large batches. Industry-leading paper protection and handling ensure quality, while the enhanced stacker control slows down paper on exit, stacking all documents neat and tidily.

PaperStream Software

PaperStream IP enhances and optimises the quality of a scanned image by removing stains, imprints and watermarks from documents. Any text that is inverted (white text on a black background) can even be reversed to vastly improve the clarity and legibility of your document. These features are vital as image quality is essential for onward processes such as OCR (Optical Character Recognition). PaperStream automates the capture process with a simple interface. The software can also automatically recognise different document forms and apply the associated scanning profile, even when scanning a variety of forms in a single batch. PaperStream Capture also uses patch & barcodes to automatically name, sort and distribute documents, as well as extract information for indexing and other post-scan processes.

How to use

Place documents in the ADF tray (up to 500 sheets) for batch scanning or use the manual feed slot for single or fragile items. Configure scan settings such as resolution, color mode and duplex in the scanner driver or bundled software, then start scanning from the built-in display or the connected workstation. For long runs, monitor the feed path and replace paper or clear jams following the user manual to maintain scanning quality and throughput.

Recommendations

For optimal results, use well-aligned, clean paper and select an appropriate resolution (200–300 dpi for standard color/text, 600 dpi for high-detail captures). Regularly perform maintenance such as cleaning the feed rollers and calibration as described in the service guide to sustain reliable, high-volume operation.
