IBM 00V7590 LTO Ultrium 6 data tape cartridge 2.5 TB / 6.25 TB

IBM LTO Ultrium 6 Data Cartridge provides high-capacity, reliable tape storage for long-term data retention and backup. Designed for organizations managing rapid data growth, the cartridge supports IBM Linear Tape File System™ and meets LTO Ultrium Generation 6 specifications. Available in both rewritable and WORM (write-once-read-many) models, it can be labeled with custom, blank or RFID-embedded labels to fit different data-management workflows.

Advantages

The cartridge delivers a native capacity of 2.5 TB and up to 6.25 TB with 2.5:1 compression, reducing the number of cartridges and the physical infrastructure required for tape-based storage. Compatibility with LTO Ultrium 6 drives and automation systems ensures predictable performance and integration. Support for IBM Linear Tape File System™ simplifies access and file management on tape. Choice of rewritable or WORM models enables flexible use for routine backups or regulatory-compliant, write-once retention.

Key specifications

• Native capacity: 2.5 TB
• Compressed capacity (2.5:1): up to 6.25 TB
• Compatibility: LTO Ultrium Generation 6 tape drives and automation
• File system support: IBM Linear Tape File System™
• Models: Rewritable and WORM (write-once-read-many)
• Label options: Custom, blank, RFID-embedded

How to use

Install the cartridge into an LTO Ultrium 6-compatible tape drive or library according to the drive manufacturer's instructions. Use the drive or backup software to initialize and write data; enable hardware compression where supported to achieve up to 2.5:1 compression ratios. For WORM cartridges, follow your backup application and retention policies to ensure write-once behavior and compliance. Store cartridges in a controlled environment, and track RFID-enabled labels with compatible automation systems if available.

Recommendations

Choose rewritable cartridges for regular backup cycles and frequent reuse; select WORM cartridges when immutable, regulatory-compliant retention is required. Keep an inventory of cartridge labels and consider RFID-embedded options for automated tracking in large tape libraries.
