The disinfectable Medical Keyboard AK-C8112 in full layout is highly versatile in hygiene-sensitive areas and lives up to the high demands of frequent users in hospitals and medical practices. The waterproof silicone cover with an especially flat key profile can be sprayed, wiped, or even immersed in hospital-approved surface disinfectant. The ultra-flat key profile prevents microbial growth on contaminants and disinfectant residues in gaps. Depending on the hygienic requirements, the AK-C8112 is available with either a removable silicone cover that can be autoclaved for sterilization or a permanently installed membrane with an IP68 rating. The CleanFunction feature disables key input for cleaning, so you don't need to disconnect the keyboard. The AK-C8112 further features easy key orientation, light keystroke, and smooth tactile feedback. Paired with the optimized ergonomic design that prevents wrist strain, typing on the AK-C8112 is a silent, efficient and, overall, very comfortable experience. Disinfectable medical keyboard with full layout and flat key profile
Like all Active Key hygiene keyboards of the “-12”-range (suffix -12, e.g. AK-C7412, AK-C4012), the AK-C8112 hygiene keyboard has a particularly flat key profile. This has been proven to remove more bacteria and germs during cleaning. Together with the Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Amberg-Weiden, we carried out a phosphor gel emulation test with the AK-C8100 and AK-C7412 hygiene keyboards. This has clearly shown that the keyboard with the flat key profile (AK-C7412) leaves significantly less to no cleaning residue in the spaces between the keys after wipe disinfection than the keyboard with the higher profile (AK-C8100).

How to use

Connect the keyboard to a computer via the USB interface. Use the CleanFunction to disable key input before cleaning; this allows you to spray, wipe or immerse the silicone cover in approved surface disinfectants without disconnecting the device. If your model includes a removable autoclave-capable cover, remove it and follow autoclaving instructions from your facility’s sterilization protocols. After cleaning, re-enable input and resume normal use.

Recommendations

For routine disinfection, use hospital-approved cleaning agents and activate the CleanFunction before wiping or immersion. Follow your facility’s sterilization procedures when autoclaving removable covers, and allow components to dry fully before returning the keyboard to service.
