The Panasonic H-X09 (LEICA DG SUMMILUX 9mm F1.7) is an ultra-wide Micro Four Thirds lens with a 9mm focal length and a bright F1.7 maximum aperture. Its optical design uses 12 elements in 9 groups, including two aspherical elements, two ED elements and one UHR (Ultra High Refractive Index) element to reduce axial and magnification chromatic aberration and correct astigmatism, delivering high resolving performance and uniform image quality from center to edges. The lens is compact and lightweight (approximately 130 g) and has a 55 mm filter thread and a 7-blade circular aperture.

Advantages

The optical construction with aspherical, ED and UHR elements provides suppressed chromatic aberration, improved sharpness and consistent image quality across the frame, while the bright F1.7 aperture supports low-light shooting and shallow depth of field control. Fast, quiet autofocus operation (compatible with camera AF systems up to 240 fps), reduced focus breathing and micro-step aperture control improve usability for both stills and professional video. The lens also features a dust- and splash-resistant design operable down to -10 °C and a compact form factor for easy portability.

Suitable for

  • Landscape photography
  • Architecture and interior shooting
  • Street and environmental photography
  • Video production requiring minimal focus breathing
  • Travel and documentary work where compact size matters

Key specifications

  • Focal length: 9 mm (ultra-wide)
  • Maximum aperture: F1.7
  • Minimum aperture: F16
  • Lens construction: 12 elements in 9 groups (including 2 aspherical, 2 ED, 1 UHR)
  • Closest focusing distance: 0.095 m
  • Maximum magnification: 0.25×
  • Filter thread: 55 mm
  • Aperture blades: 7 (circular diaphragm)
  • Mount: Micro Four Thirds (MFT)
  • Weight: approx. 0.13 kg
  • Operating temperature: down to -10 °C (dust/splash resistant)

How to use

Attach the Panasonic H-X09 to a Micro Four Thirds camera body using the MFT mount and secure the lens. Use the focus ring with either linear or non-linear response: set the lens to linear mode for precise, repeatable focus shifts per rotation quantum, or choose non-linear mode to vary the focus amount by rotation speed. Select sensitivity (focus shift per rotational quantum) between 90° and 360° in 30° steps if supported by the camera. For video, enable micro-step aperture control on a compatible camera to achieve smooth exposure transitions and minimize exposure jumps during recording.

Recommendations

The lens performs best when combined with Micro Four Thirds bodies that support high-speed AF and micro-step aperture control. Use a lens hood or 55 mm screw-in filters to protect the front element. For critical wide-angle compositions, stop down toward F4–F8 to maximize edge-to-edge sharpness; use F1.7 when low-light performance or subject separation is required.
