Thermoelectric cool box IGLOO IE42 - 42 qt portable DC/AC cooler

The IGLOO IE42 Portable Cooler 42 Quart Capacity DC/AC is a compact thermoelectric cooler designed to provide cold storage without a compressor. Intended for use in vehicles or at locations with mains power, this unit operates from 12V DC or standard AC power to maintain chilled items while on the move. Its 42 quart capacity offers enough room for drinks, snacks and perishable items for small groups during travel, picnics or outdoor activities.

Advantages

The thermoelectric cooling system provides quiet operation and reduced vibration compared with compressor-based coolers, and the dual DC/AC power compatibility lets you use the unit in a car or at home. The cooler’s compact footprint and moderate 42 quart capacity balance storage space with portability, making it easy to fit in vehicle cargo areas or on a campsite. Low maintenance requirements and simple controls make the unit straightforward to operate.

Suitable for

• Road trips and long drives — powering from a vehicle 12V socket
• Picnics and day outings where portable cooling is needed
• Camping and outdoor activities with access to DC or AC power
• Keeping drinks and snacks chilled in boats, RVs or tailgates

When it may not be suitable

As a thermoelectric cooler, the IE42 is intended for maintaining chilled temperatures rather than deep freezing; it does not reach the low temperatures achievable by compressor-based freezers. Performance can be affected by high ambient temperatures, so cooling efficiency may decrease in very hot environments.

Key specifications

• Cooling technology: thermoelectric
• Capacity: 42 quarts (approx. 40 litres)
• Power options: 12V DC and standard AC input
• Typical use: portable cold storage for beverages and perishables
• Design: compact, portable housing suitable for vehicle and outdoor use

How to use

Place the cooler on a stable, level surface with adequate ventilation around the housing. Connect to a 12V vehicle outlet for mobile use or to an AC power source when mains power is available. Pre-chilling contents or using ice packs can improve overall cooling results. Operate the controls according to the unit’s settings to select the desired internal temperature range, and avoid blocking vents to maintain airflow and efficiency.

What to consider before purchase

• Required cooling level: suitable for chilling but not for deep-freeze applications
• Power source availability: ensure access to 12V DC or AC power where you plan to use the unit
• Space and fit: confirm the 42 quart capacity and physical dimensions meet your storage needs
• Ambient conditions: expect reduced efficiency in very hot environments

Recommendations

To get the best performance from the IGLOO IE42, pre-cool contents when possible, maintain unobstructed ventilation around the unit, and use it in moderate ambient temperatures. For longer trips, combine the cooler with quality ice packs to stabilise temperature and reduce power consumption.
