VIRTUS V3 is a PoE switch, 16 10/100Mbps PoE ports with 2 Gigabit Uplink ports and 1 SFP port.

Extralink VIRTUS V3 is perfect for powering IP cameras, wireless access points or IP phones. VIRTUS V3 switch supports 4 modes of operation. In AI VLAN mode, the ports from 1-16 are isolated from each other, which can effectively stop broadcast storms and improve network performance. In AI Extend mode, the effective distance of data transmission and PoE power to ports 1-8 can reach 250 meters, which is extremely useful to power cameras far away from the switch. In AI PoE mode, the switch automatically detects the operating status of the device and when it detects that the device is malfunctioning, resets the power supply to the device. In AI QOS mode: Video data will be processed with priority.

Power supply to devices via Ethernet cable (PoE)

VIRTUS V3 supports IEEE 802.3af/at standards, automatically identifies devices that need PoE power, so it will not damage devices not powered by PoE. Total power budget for PoE ports is 150W. The switch does not require any additional configuration and is ready to use when removed from the package. The included mounting brackets allow mounting the switch in a standard rack.

Mode buttons

- AI Extend: Port 1-8 supports PoE power up to 250 meters. (recommended cat 5 or higher cable)
- AI VLAN: Isolate ports 1-16 from each other, effectively stop network storms and improve network performance.
- AI QOS: Priority for identified video data to make video transmission smoother. Ideal mode for video surveillance.
- AI PoE: Automatically turn off the power and restart the device in case of detected inactivity (suspension).

How to use

Install the VIRTUS V3 into a standard 1U rack using the supplied mounting brackets or place it on a stable surface. Connect uplink ports to your core switch or router using Cat5e or higher cables for Gigabit links, and connect PoE-enabled devices to the RJ-45 PoE ports. The switch is unmanaged and works immediately after power-up; it will automatically detect PoE devices and allocate power. Select the desired operation mode using the front-panel mode keys: AI VLAN for port isolation, AI Extend to enable extended PoE reach on ports 1–8, AI PoE for automatic power reset on unresponsive devices, or AI QOS to prioritise video traffic.

Recommendations

Use Cat5e or higher quality cabling when requiring Gigabit uplinks or extended PoE distance; ensure total connected PoE device power does not exceed the 150 W budget; choose AI QOS mode for smoother video streams in surveillance setups and AI Extend only for powering devices at longer distances where cable quality supports extended reach.
