Stage piano Kurzweil SP7 88-key weighted action, hammer-action keyboard, full range

The Kurzweil SP7 is an 88-key stage piano with fully hammer-weighted action designed to deliver an authentic acoustic piano touch across the instrument's full range. Built for live performance and studio contexts, the SP7 combines a realistic keybed with a collection of acoustic and electric piano voices, strings, organs and other instrumental sounds. Performance-focused controls provide immediate access to patches, layering and real-time adjustments, while standard audio and MIDI connectivity allow integration with PA systems, mixers and external sound modules.

Advantages

The fully weighted, hammer-action keyboard reproduces dynamic response and key resistance similar to an acoustic grand, supporting expressive playing and subtle control of tone. A broad palette of high-quality piano and instrument sounds gives flexibility for different musical styles, and dedicated performance controls enable fast selection and manipulation of sounds during sets. Robust connectivity options provide straightforward routing to amplification and recording gear, and the instrument's full 88-key range supports extended repertoire and complex arrangements.

Suitable for

• Live gigging musicians who need an authentic piano feel and quick sound access
• Studio keyboardists requiring realistic weighted action for recording
• Churches, rehearsal spaces, and small venues seeking a versatile stage piano
• Arrangers and composers working with full-range keyboard parts

Key specifications

• Keyboard: 88 keys, fully weighted hammer-action
• Sound set: acoustic pianos, electric pianos, strings, organs and additional instrument tones
• Performance controls: patch selection, layering and real-time adjustment knobs/buttons
• Connectivity: audio outputs for amplification, MIDI I/O for external devices
• Intended use: stage performance and studio recording

How to use

Connect the SP7 to a PA or amplifier using the main audio outputs and set levels on both the instrument and the external system. Use the built-in performance controls to select a piano or instrument patch, combine layers if required, and adjust volume and tone parameters in real time while playing. For recording or MIDI control, connect via the MIDI ports or appropriate audio interface. The hammer-action keyboard responds to touch sensitivity and dynamic play; adjust your attack and release to achieve the desired expression.

Recommendations

For live setups, save commonly used patches to quick-access slots and check audio routing before the performance. Use a quality sustain pedal and a stable stands or bench to maintain consistent playing posture and preserve the hammer-action keybed. For studio work, record directly via DI outputs or a clean audio interface to capture the instrument's dynamic range.
