Server Case Inter-Tech 4U 40240 Rack Black, Grey

The Inter-Tech 4U 40240 Rack Server Case Black, Grey is a 4U rack-mount chassis designed for server and NAS installations. Constructed from steel and finished in grey and black, the case accommodates Mini-ITX, Mini-ATX, Micro ATX and ATX motherboards and provides bay support for up to eleven 3.5" drives and four 2.5" drives. Front cooling is provided by two 120 mm fans and rear ventilation by two 80 mm fans. The chassis includes three 5.25" bays and two front USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports for basic connectivity. Overall dimensions are 485 mm (W) x 445 mm (D) x 177.8 mm (H), and the product weight is 9.79 kg.

Advantages

The steel construction ensures structural rigidity and durability suitable for continuous operation in rack environments. Multiple dedicated bays for 3.5" and 2.5" drives provide flexible storage configurations for HDDs and SSDs without the need for adapters. Preinstalled fans (2x 120 mm front, 2x 80 mm rear) deliver directed airflow to critical drive and motherboard areas to assist in maintaining operating temperatures. Native support for ATX and smaller form factors allows compatibility with a wide range of server motherboards and power supply layouts. Two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports on the front panel enable faster external storage access compared with USB 2.0.

Suitable for

• Rack-mounted small business servers
• Network-attached storage (NAS) arrays with multiple HDDs
• Home lab and virtualization hosts
• Backup and archival storage systems

How to use

Install the appropriate motherboard (ATX or smaller) into the standoffs provided and secure with standard mounting screws. Fit hard drives or SSDs into the designated 3.5" and 2.5" bays using the included mounting hardware or trays. Route power and data cables to avoid obstructing airflow from the front 120 mm fans to the rear 80 mm fans. Install a compatible power supply unit into the PSU mounting area; note that a power supply is not included. Slide the chassis into a compatible 19" rack and secure it using rack screws. Connect front USB devices to the motherboard header and use the front Type-A ports for external drives or maintenance tasks.

Recommendations

For reliable long-term operation, use enterprise-grade or NAS-optimized HDDs in the 3.5" bays and mount SSDs in the 2.5" bays for system or cache drives. Maintain clear airflow paths by bundling cables and periodically cleaning fan filters and fan intakes. Ensure the rack provides adequate ventilation and that the installed PSU meets the total system power requirements with appropriate headroom.
