tesa® 4600 is a self-welding silicone sealing tape supplied in black, 3 m long and 25 mm wide. The tape’s silicone base bonds onto itself without adhesive, creating an immediate hermetic seal that conforms to irregular surfaces. It is suitable for indoor and outdoor use, works on oily, dirty or wet surfaces and can even be applied underwater. The material resists chemicals, oils, acids, solvents, salt water, UV exposure and temperatures from -65 °C to +260 °C. The tape can also form temporary bonds and is removable without leaving residues. Typical professional uses include insulating cables and short-term repairs to water pipes.

How to use

Cut or tear the required length of tape, stretch it slightly and wrap it tightly around the area to be sealed so that the tape contacts itself and fuses. Overlap each turn by at least 50% for an effective hermetic seal. For cable insulation, wrap from the load-free end toward the load and smooth down each layer. For pipe repairs, apply several overlapping layers until the leak is fully covered. No primer or additional adhesive is required; allow the tape to fuse to itself before pressurising the system when used on plumbing.

Recommendations

Before application, remove sharp edges and, when possible, roughen or clean the surface. Although the tape bonds on oily or wet surfaces, removing excess contaminants improves fusion. Avoid contact with open flame; consult system specifications before permanent use at the extremes of the temperature range.
