Digital camcorder microphone RØDE NTG-2

The RØDE NTG2 is a lightweight condenser shotgun microphone for film, video, television and production use. With a full 20 Hz–20 kHz frequency response, low self-noise and transparent audio character, it is suitable for location dialogue, voice-over and on-camera recording. The microphone accepts both 1.5 V AA battery power and 48 V phantom power and uses an XLR-3 wired connection; its low weight (approximately 161 g without battery) also makes it convenient for boom-mounted applications. A supplied WSVM windshield reduces light wind noise and plosives, while an optional furry cover is available for outdoor recording. The NTG2 is designed and manufactured in Australia and is covered by RØDE’s 10-year warranty.

How to use

Mount the NTG2 on a boom pole or camera shoe and connect it to your recorder or camera using an XLR-3 cable. Select phantom power on your recorder or insert a 1.5 V AA battery into the microphone if phantom power is not available. Use the selectable high-pass filter (80 Hz) when you need to reduce low-frequency noise such as traffic or air conditioning. Fit the supplied WSVM windshield for indoor and light-wind outdoor work; attach the optional furry cover for stronger wind conditions.

Recommendations

Position the microphone close to the sound source while keeping it out of frame when on a boom. Use the high-pass filter to reduce rumble and enable phantom power when connecting to professional audio interfaces; switch to battery power for DSLR or camcorder setups lacking phantom power.
