The ShiftCam LU-WD-016-23-EF Wide lens 16mm Black Gold is a compact smartphone photo lens designed to expand the camera's field of view to capture wider scenes. With a 16mm equivalent focal length and a maximum magnification of 0.5x, this aluminium-and-glass optic provides an ultra-wide perspective for landscape, travel and group photography while remaining lightweight at 76.6 g and only 26.4 mm long.

Advantages

This 16mm wide-angle lens delivers a wider field of view that helps include more of the scene in a single frame without significant loss of detail. Constructed from aluminium and optical glass, it combines durability with optical clarity. The lens’s compact dimensions and low weight make it easy to carry and mount on compatible smartphone systems, enabling faster composition changes when shooting outdoors or on the move.

How to use

Attach the lens to a compatible ShiftCam smartphone mount or adapter according to the mount instructions, ensuring the lens sits centered over the phone camera. Frame your subject and adjust distance to avoid unwanted distortion at very close range; use the 16mm wide field to include more of the scene or to emphasize perspective. For best results, keep the lens and phone camera sensors clean and steady while composing, and adjust in-phone settings such as exposure and focus as needed.

Recommendations

Use this lens when you need to capture expansive scenes, interior spaces, or larger groups. For portraits, step back to reduce edge distortion. When shooting landscapes, combine the ultra-wide field with a mid-range aperture and stable support to maximise sharpness across the frame.
