The HP 2920 Switch Series includes five models: HP 2920-24G and 2920-24G-PoE+ with 24 10/100/1000 ports, and HP 2920-48G, 2920-48G-PoE+ and 2920-48G 740W PoE+ with 48 10/100/1000 ports. Each switch provides four dual-personality ports supporting 10/100/1000 or SFP modules, optional support for up to four 10 Gigabit Ethernet uplink ports (SFP+ and/or 10GBASE-T), and an optional two-port stacking module. How to use

Install the chosen HP 2920 model in a standard rack or on a flat surface, connect access devices to the 10/100/1000 ports and use the dual-personality ports for fiber SFP modules where needed. Add optional 10 GbE uplink modules or the two-port stacking module to expand uplink capacity or create a stack of switches. Configure basic network settings, VLANs, QoS policies and routing (static or RIP) through the web interface, CLI or SNMP management tools. For PoE+ models, connect powered devices and monitor power budgets to ensure sufficient PoE delivery.

Recommendations

Choose the PoE+ versions if you need to power IP phones, wireless access points or cameras. Use SFP+ or 10GBASE-T uplinks where higher bandwidth to aggregation or core switches is required. Enable Energy-Efficient Ethernet and use the high-efficiency power supply to reduce operating costs. Apply SNMPv3 and appropriate access controls to secure management traffic.
