The Aputure Lantern AP-LANTERN is a 65 cm (26") spherical softbox designed to produce soft, even light from LED or studio strobe sources. Supplied with a lantern spring cage, diffusion fabric, a 4-section adjustable light control skirt (fabric barn doors) and a carrying bag, the Lantern is a portable modifier that spreads light over a wide area with a 270° beam angle.

How to use

Assemble the lantern by expanding the tension frame until it locks into shape, attach the diffusion fabric over the frame, and secure the adjustable skirt with the hook-and-loop fasteners in the desired positions to shape the light. Mount the lantern on a compatible light head or support (ensure the fixture’s mount and weight are appropriate), position the light source inside or above the lantern as recommended by your fixture’s instructions, then adjust the skirt sections to reduce spill or direct illumination.

Recommendations

For best results use with LED panels or strobes that provide even front illumination; avoid placing extremely hot light sources in direct contact with the fabric. When using on location, store the lantern in its carrying bag and secure the lantern on a stand with a sandbag or weight if shooting outdoors to prevent tipping.
