Self-Healing Network with increased reliability and stability - Intellinet Powered Device Monitor (PDM)
This managed PoE switch is equipped with Powered Device Monitoring, a self-healing PoE function. A built-in PoE watchdog performs a PD alive check on all connected PDs and automatically resets unresponsive devices, such as PoE security surveillance cameras, by cutting off and then restoring power. The PDM function is especially useful in applications where connected devices are crucial to network operation, such as in industrial or surveillance settings. As an added benefit, the PD Alive function helps eliminate unnecessary technical support calls and costly trips by field-support engineers because the functional reboot can often bring the unresponsive device back online.

The delay-time-per-port feature reduces the power hike that usually happens at system start, and the PoE priority feature (low, medium, high) allows you to define mission-critical, high-priority ports that will continue to receive power even if the switch's power budget has been exceeded. You can also define the maximum available power per port, turn PoE on and off at each port and monitor the current power draw of all connected PoE devices. Additionally, this managed network switch can send SNMP-traps messages to alert the administrator that the total power draw on the switch exceeds the user-defined threshold value.

How to use

Install the switch on a flat surface or in a rack using appropriate mounting hardware. Connect network devices to the RJ45 Gigabit ports and fiber links to the SFP slots as needed. Configure IP address and access the web management interface to set VLANs, QoS, port aggregation and PoE parameters. Use the PoE management options to set per-port priority, maximum power per port and delay-time-per-port to avoid inrush current at startup. Enable PDM (Powered Device Monitor) to allow automatic PD alive checks and automated reboot of unresponsive PoE devices.

Recommendations

Place the switch in a ventilated location with ambient temperature within the manufacturer’s specified range, and ensure total connected PoE load does not exceed the device’s power budget unless you have configured PoE priorities and per-port limits. Regularly monitor power draw and SNMP traps to detect overload conditions early.
