Deuter Futura 21 SL 21L Red Unisex Hiking Backpack

The Deuter Futura 21 SL 21L Red Unisex Hiking Backpack is a lightweight, technical daypack designed for comfortable, active hiking. With a 21-litre capacity and a weight of approximately 1.16 kg, the pack combines an ergonomic SL fit with a breathable back system and practical storage for everyday trail use. The streamlined 280 mm width and conical hip fins provide a secure fit while the stretch mesh front pocket allows airing of damp clothing. Main materials in the Futura series are bluesign® certified.

Advantages

The SL variant offers a shorter back length, narrower shoulder straps and conically shaped hip fins that deliver a stable, body-hugging fit suited to a range of body types. The Aircomfort mesh back system increases airflow across the back to reduce overheating during sustained activity. A lightweight construction balances durability and packability, while the external stretch mesh pocket and organized main compartment give quick access to essentials on the trail.

Suitable for

• Day hikes and short mountain walks
• Commuting and urban outdoor use
• Trail runs with light gear

How to use

Adjust shoulder straps, sternum strap and hip fins to achieve a snug, balanced fit with the weight close to your back. Use the main compartment for clothing, food and a hydration bladder if applicable, and the external stretch mesh pocket for wet layers or items you need to access quickly. Position heavier items low and close to your spine to preserve balance, and fine-tune the ventilation by ensuring the Aircomfort mesh back panel remains free from obstruction.

Recommendations

For best comfort on active hikes, pack heavier gear close to your back, tighten the hip fins to transfer load to the hips, and use the Aircomfort mesh back system to maintain airflow. Rinse and air-dry the stretch mesh pocket after contact with wet clothing to prolong material life. Follow garment care instructions for cleaning the pack and avoid prolonged UV exposure to preserve colour and fabric performance.
