Cast iron mortar GEFU X-PLOSION G-34652, heavy-duty grinding bowl for spices and herbs

GEFU X-PLOSION cast iron mortar G-34652 is a heavy-duty grinding bowl designed for manual processing of spices, herbs and seeds. Constructed from solid cast iron, the mortar provides substantial weight and stability that facilitate efficient crushing and aroma release. The broad, deep bowl shape and textured interior allow for controlled grinding and mixing when preparing spice blends, pestos, rubs and small-batch pastes in both home and professional kitchens.

Advantages

The cast iron construction ensures durability and long service life while delivering the mass needed to crush fibrous and oily ingredients with minimal effort. Its heavy base reduces slippage during use and the textured interior improves traction for consistent grinding results. The simple, robust design is easy to maintain and suitable for frequent use. Because cast iron retains some thermal mass, it helps stabilize temperature during preparation, which can be beneficial for certain preparations.

Suitable for

• Grinding whole spices such as peppercorns, coriander and cumin
• Mashing fresh herbs and garlic for pestos and marinades
• Preparing rubs and dry blends for grilling and roasting
• Making small batches of pastes, chimichurri or curry bases

Key specifications

• Material: cast iron for high mass and durability
• Bowl shape: broad and deep for grinding and mixing
• Finish: textured interior surface to improve grinding action
• Use: manual operation with pestle for controlled crushing

How to use

Place whole spices, herbs or seeds in the mortar bowl and hold the mortar steady with one hand. Use a matching pestle to press and rotate against the ingredients, applying steady downward and circular motion to break down fibres and release oils. For pastes, add small amounts of salt or a splash of liquid to ease emulsification and continue grinding until the desired consistency is reached. After use, rinse and dry thoroughly to prevent moisture retention; avoid abrasive cleaners that can strip iron seasoning if the surface is pre-seasoned.

Recommendations

To maintain performance, dry the mortar completely after washing and apply a thin layer of neutral cooking oil if you observe the surface drying. Avoid soaking in water for prolonged periods. Use the mortar on a stable, non-slip surface and do not use it in combination with highly acidic foods for extended storage inside the bowl.
